A pot culture study was carried out to investigate the susceptibility of eight varieties of maize to low soil Cu. On the basis of dry matter yield obtained following Cu application, variety EV-1089 was not susceptible to low soil Cu. The varieties, EV-6089, DTC-Yousufwala and EV-5089 were moderately susceptible as they responded to Cu application by about 8% which was statistically significant. Other varieties viz., Golden, Ag-85, Composit-17 and DTC-Faisalabad were susceptible as their response to Cu ranged from 16-21% in dry matter. Varietal susceptibility to low soil Cu was neither related to their Cu concentrations in eight week old shoots nor to dry matter yield at control. Copper application exhibited mixed effect on Zn uptake by the various varieties under study.
