Sorption lead ions by various soil types

The objective of the study was to investigate lead ion sorption capacity of various soil types. Measurements were taken for soil sample, both initial and humus-free with humus being removed with hydrogen peroxide. The process of lead ions sorption was carried out with solutions containing from 5 to 60 mg Pb*[2+)/dm**3. Lead concentration in equilibrium solutions was assessed ionometrically. The results of Pb*[2+) adsorption obtained were used to determine Langmuir adsorption isotherms. It can be concluded that the Langmuir equation can be used successfully for the description of lead ion sorption by soils. Moreover, there was observed a close relationship between the maximum sorption in the samples studied and their specific surface determined with the methylene blue sorption
