Comparison of growth and yields performance of eight gooseberry cultivars on a light soil

In 1991 eight gooseberry cultivars were planted. Bushes were spaced 2.5 x 1.0 m in rows in a randomized-block design with four replications and five-bush plots. The management of the soil was black fallow, kept clean by hoeing and mechanical cultivation. Height and diameter of bushes were measured. Crop yield per bush and hectare were evaluated. Berries were analysed for the content of dry matter, total sugars, organic acids and vitamin C. It was found that all the cultivars studied performed well
