Moisture content of the grounds within depression crater of brown coal mine at Belchatow was tested in 1979-88 with a neutron probe at constant measurement points. Tests were conducted from March to November at two week intervals. The amplitude of ground moisture content changes depended mostly on the weather course and measuring depth. During 10-year period the soil moisture content was found to be decreasing, though the monthly sums of precipitation along that period did not show any downward trend
