[Fertilisation with nitrogen, phosphorus and lime and its influence on the production of the cv. "Verdeal transmontana" olive-tree [Portugal]]

Influencia da aplicacao de azoto, fosforo e calcario na producao da oliveira cv. Verdeal transmontana
In a mature olive grove, cv. Verdeal Transmontana, established on a schist soil in the Portuguese Region of Tras-os-Montes, a field experiment was set up aiming to study the effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and limestone application on the yield and on some fruit quality parameters. The experiment was carried out for eleven years. During 1987-1994 two application rates of N, P and linestone were considered (0.60 and 1.20kg.tree-1.year-1 of N; 0.00 and 0.22 kg.tree-1.year-1 of P; 0 and 10 000 kg.ha-1 of limestone were applied in the first experimental year). From 1995 to 1997 the application rates of N were 0.00 and 0.50 kg.tree.year-1. In what concerns P and limestone, only the residual effect was studied. Phosphorus application, in the first period, induced a decreasing on yield and fruit-fat content. Conversely, fruit-fat content was increased with the highest nitrogen application rate. The fruit-mean weight was not influenced by the fertilisation. In the second period no significant mean effect of the fertilisation on the studied variables was found
