Papaya ringspot virus in the Island of Madeira
1999
Fernandes, A. (Laboratorio Agricola, Camacha (Madeira))
During the years 1994 to 1996 a search was made on eight of the ten municipalities of Madeira Island for detection of the Papaya Ringspot Virus. The plants were observed on field and samples collected for the confirmation of virus presence through laboratorial tests. The most commonly observed symptoms were severe mosaic, leaf distortion, spots on the fruit and some of them didn't produce fruit at all. Evidence showed that younger plants (1 to 2 years) presented more symptoms and many died during the period of observation. The presence of PRSV on some samples was confirmed using ELISA tests
