Detection of TSWV in potato crops in Portugal

During the last two years, potato fields have been tested for the presence of Tomato spoted wilt virus (TSWV) in the central region of Portugal. In this work, symptoms of primary and secondary infections on leaves and tubers are described. The detection and identification of this virus has been done by DAS-ELISA, inoculation tests on indicator plants and ISEM techniques. The results obtained showed that TSWV can be a demaging virus to potato crops, mainly in areas were tomato and ornamental plants susceptible to this virus are grown and infected with this virus
