Leaf area index and dendromass production in red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and black walnut (Juglans nigra L.) stands
1999
Tokar, F. (Slovak Academy of Sciences, Nitra (Slovak Republic). Institute of Forest Ecology)
The work evaluates the leaf area idex (LAI) and its relationship to the aboveground dendromass production in different stand types of red oak (Quercus rubra L.) and black walnut (Juglans nigra L.) in Slovakia at the age of 21 to 39 years tended by moderate crown thinnings. The greatest LAI values were found in the mixed stand of Juglans nigra L. and Tillia cordata Mill. both the beginning of the trail in 1978 at the age of 21 years (11.90 ha per ha) and in the end of the trial in 1993 at the age of 36 years (4.05 ha per ha). The LAI/age relationships were expressed by negative non linear exponential functions (correlation index = - 0.728 to - 0.996)
