This paper deals with the influence of number and rythm of cuttings of irrigated alfalfa on its yield and economy of production. The achieved results have shown that the frequency of mowing of irrigated lucerne is an important production measure from the viewpoints of production, economy and fertilisation. The highest yield for three production years has been achieved on medium soils on the treatment that has been mowed three-times in the first production year and four-times in the remaining productions years. The highest crude protein production has been achieved on the treatment that was mowed four-times annually. The highest fodder quality with the highest nitrogen content and the lowest content of cellulose were achived on the five-mows treatment. The results achived in the research have schown that in the medium - soil conditions, with appropriate frequency of mowing and outright irrigation regimen, it is possible to extend the productions years of lucerne for three years, to harvest up to 17.0 t/ha of dry matter containing 3500 kg of crude proteins with costs that may be by 20-25% in comparision to two years production of lucerne crop
