In alcohol industry utilization of starch crops becomes of higher importance even in the areas where the molasses was the main feedstock. Mainly due to environment protection, attention is paid to utilization of lignocellulosic biomass and scrap materials. A review of feedstocks for fermentation production of ethanol as well as production yields and performances while using various raw materials are presented. Potential improvements accomplished with new technologies, such as immobilized or high cell density are discussed
