The system of gypsy moth (L.dispar) population density monitoring by using pheromones is described. Sometimes, we found various number of captures males at different sites, when real abundance was almost equal everywhere. This fact is probably influenced by area size of forest islands, mainly (which are monitoring points placed in). On the basis of obtained data we conclude that massive immigration of males limits the accuracy of pheromone method in large forest islands. It is possible to use this finding in dividing the forest islands into 3 categories as suitable - area below 100 ha, less suitable - area 100-300 ha and the least susitable - area over 300 ha
