Preliminary study on rate of parasitism of larval parasitoids Cotesia plutellae Kurdjumov (Hym: Braconidae) in Phitsanulok

Diamondback moth, DBM (Plutella xylostella L.) is a major pest of cruciferous crops in Phitsanulok, Thailand. Pesticides are applied as a control measure but it is now resistant to several of them. Larval parasitoid, Cotesia plutellae Kurdj. is a promising parasite in the area. Parasitism study in the crucifer producing region of Phitsanulok was 13.83+-15.72 percent, and the greatest rate of parasitism 24.25+-18.71 percent, on DBM obtained from Amphoe Bang Rakum. However, rates of parasitism on DBM in Amphoe Maung and Amphoe Wang-Thong were lower at 11.24+-16.15 and 5.99+-5.76 percent, respectively. Hereby, it is recommended to enhance parasitism of the larval parasitoid in order to obtain complete biological control over the area.
