Roles of landuse and landcover changes on nutrient contents in streamwater of managing representative watersheds (Mae Taeng, Chern and Khlong Yan)

Study on roles of landuse and landcover changes on nutrient contents in streamwater of managing representative watershed was carried out during February 1995 to February 1996. Sampling water were collected from subwatersheds that different in landuse types and outlet of each watershed area. Results showed that concentrations of nitrate, phosphate, sulphate and silicate in Mae Taeng Watershed ranged between 0.01-0.13, 0.03-0.22, 4.8-11.5 and 5.6-17.0 mg/l respectively. For Chern Watershed, concentrations of nitrate, phosphate, sulphate and silicate ranged between 0.01-0.24, 0.01-0.32, 1.2-14.5 and 2.1-19.0 mg/l respectively. Concentrations of nitrate, phosphate, sulphate and silicate in Khlong Yan Watershed ranged between 0.01-0.39, 0.01-0.06, 3.2-11.0 and 4.9-16.0 mg/l respectively. Phosphate contents in water from Mae Taeng Watershed may initiate the pollution problem caused by community activity, similarily to Chern Watershed, high phosphate contents were observed in forest area resulted from human activity. For Khlong Yan Watershed, high phosphate contents in water resulted from agricultural activity. From this study, phosphate may caused the pollution problem to water resource effected from community activities and agricultural activities. Water quality study especially, nutrients can indicate the activity or landuse and landcover changes, since these activities produce translocation or accumulation of nutrients to water resources specifically, in risky area to soil erosion in slope complex and natural forest.
