Degumming liquor utilization for treatment of cellulose fibers

This experiment was conducted to determine the quantity of sericin, a substance dissolving in silk gum liquor, which is normally utilized as a crease-recovery agent for resin finish on textiles. The process was analyzed quantitatively. The results revealed that in every 100 ml of silk gum liquor, there were 3.55 gm of sericin by chemical analysis, and 3.80 gm by the physical method, coagulated-respectively. The quantity mentioned was sufficient for effective utilization as a textile resin finish. The silk gum liquor had to be treated orderless and colorless by using an absorbent substant to prevent its deterioration. This treatment helped silk gum liquor remain stable up to 6 months, but if temperature was increased, it would turn bad in 3 months. Silk gum liquor could be utilized as a finishing agent for cotton and rayon not only by spraying before ironing but also by leaving the fabric in silk gum liquor for a period of time before ironing. This experiment yielded the results that the fabrics which were finished by utilizing the treated silk gum liquor were finished by utilizing the treated silk gum liquor were crease-resistant and easy to iron. They also had lustre property and higher tensile strength.
