Method for pol determination in sugar products using a new adsorbent

This paper describes a methodology for pol determination in which a new adsorbent is used as an alternative to substitute the clarification of sugar solutions with lead salts. The adsorbent, made up of magnetite particles, is covered by a membrane which retains a large amount of quaternary amines and is easy to recover, reactivate with acetic acid solutions and reuse more than 200 times. The equivalent decolorization and pol results when using the new and the traditional method are shown.
