Squids Loligo sumatrensis were distributed at the depth of 10 m to 50 m in the Eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand. The squids were more abundant at the station 29 and 58 where the catch rates were 1.96 kg/hour and 1.93 kg/hour respectively. The sex ratio between the males and the females was approximately 1:2.2. Their mantle length ranged from 2.0-4.5 cm and 2.0-7.5 cm in males and in females respectively. The length of mantle of the females was related to the depth of the distributed water. The depth of the water is greater, the length of the mantle is larger. The spawning season of the squid lay spread out all year round. However, four peaks of the spawning season occured annually in April, May, June and December. The fecundity varied from 125 eggs for the females having 3.3 cm in the mantle length to 452 eggs for those of 4.7 cm. The average fecundity calculated from the females ranging from 3.3 to 4.7 cm in the mantle length was 293 eggs. The correlative equation between fecundity and mantle length was found to be F=16.41 ML*[2.02268). The sizes at first maturity for males and females were 2.98 cm and 3.48 cm in mantle length respectively. The stomach content mainly consisted of four kinds of food as fallowing; fishes, shrimps, acetes, and others which depended on the season and on the distance of squid distribution from the shoreline. The weight varied from 1.10 gm for 22.0 cm in mantle length to 9.50 gm for those of 5.2 cm. The correlative equation between mantle length and weight for males and females were found to be W=0.00027 ML*[2.59785) and W=0.00048 ML*[2.48914) respectively.
