Development of embryo transfer technology in Thailand and increasing the efficiency of dairy cattle production by embryo transfer technology

Embryo transfer technology in diary cattle has been developed in Thailand with two main objectives: 1) to develop conventional method under tropical condition and 2) to transfer imported frozen embryos to native cows and investigate the performances/ adaptation of purebreed offsprings. The technic has succeeded with the pregnancy rate at 40 percent. Eighteen purebred Holstein Friesian were born form the imported frozen embryos. Good performances and adaptations were recorded. They became the good genetic stock from which the semen have been serviced to the farmer following the progeny testing. Cows with high mild yield were selected as the donors. Embryos were collected and cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen. Embryonic bank was in attempt, and the efficiency testing was undertaken by transfering the preserved embryos to recipients. The result showed 38.6 percent conception rate. In-house training to technicians and to farmers were set up. Commercialized application has been in attempt. Embryo culture, in vitro fertilization and higher technics of embryonic manipulation were undertaken for further bio-molecular investigation.
