Sugar beet which supposedly has a narrow genetic base cultivated for less than 200 years. Broadening the genetic base of this crop through interspesific hybridization is important for its future breeding. This is only possible with focusing on the desirable characteristics and the natural variation occuring in primitive beet forms and wild Beta species of genus Beta potential. The rate of crossability, morphological and physiological characteristics, including sugar content and ability of resistance to diseases and pests are important characteristics of genus Beta with a potential of breeding
