Dok, M. (Harran Univ., Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Sanliurfa (Turkey). Div. of Field Crops)
This study was conducted to determine the performance of ten hybrid maize varieties (TTM.8119, TTM.815, LG.55, LG.2777, MF.714, PX.9540, PX.74, XL.72 AA, G.4207, C.7993) as main crop and second crop in Harran Plain in 1993. The results showed that when the varieties were planted as main crop they matured in 129 days while in 151 days as second crop. The differences between varieties for characters such as days to flowering (50%), difference between days to tasselling and silking, plant height, ear height, ear thickness, harvest moisture (%), thousand grain weight and grain yield were significant in both main crop and second crop. Differences for number of row per ear, number of kernel per row, ear length and ear filling were significant in main crop, while differences for stalk thickness and selling percentage were significant only in second crop maize
