Preliminary yield trial of sugarcane lines derived from selection 2 for smut resistance

Total of 22 clones of cane series 1989 selected from the 1991 smut screening trial were grown together with standard checks, F140, Q83 and U-Thong 1 in RCB with 2 replications. The purpose of the trial was to study their yielding potential and their quality. The results showed significantly differences between means of each clone in cane yield (ton/rai) and other agronomic traits including CCS. Many clones showed higher cane yield (ton/rai) than that of U-Thong 1, eventhough, there were not significant differences. These clones were 89 SR-617, 89 SR-621 and 89 SR-588. CCS and sugar yield (ton/rai) of those clones are also higher as well. Positive correlations were found between cane yield (ton/rai) and other agronomic traits such as, height, stalk weight and number of stalks/rai.
