Varietal test for red rot wilt resistance

It was shown that among group of hybrid series 1987 - 1991, clone 90-010, 90-154 and 90-199 showed resistant reactions and clone 80-128 80-152, 90-335, 85-352, 87-356, 88-477, 89-158, 89-518, 90-221, 90-256 and 91-539 showed moderately resistant. Among smut resistant hybrid series 1992, most of them showed resistant reaction except 92-SM-64119. Introduced varieties which showed resistant reaction were C 87-51, SP 78-1233 and SP 79-6143 and C 323-68, SP 79-1 and SP 79-2313 showed moderately resistant reaction. Commercial variety showing resistant was F 156, the ones showing moderately resistant reaction were Phil 6317 and K 76-4 while U-thong 1 and 6-113 showed susceptible reaction and Co 775 and U-Thong 2 showed highly susceptible reaction. Reaction of U-Thong 1 and U-Thong 2 were different from the previous test when were inoculated by pathogen isolated from infected cane in Sing Buri. In that test they showed moderatily resistant reaction. This indicate the variable reaction which possibly due to isolate difference. Resistant check K 84-200, 84-646 showed resistant reaction and susceptible check, Eheaw, Chainat 1 and F 140 showed susceptible. Varieties that should be recommended in the outbreak area in Nakorn Sawan are K 84-200, 64-646, F 156, Phil 6317 and K 76-4.
