Baby corn regional yield trial in 1990

Evaluate for suitable baby corn varieties in quality of baby corn ears and yield. The varieties were open-pollinated and hybrids from government and private sectors. A Randomized Complete Block Design, 12 treatments with 4 replications at 4 locations: Chiang Mai, Srisumrong, Praputthabat and Suphan Buri, was employed by using CMB 8704 F4 and Suwan 2 as check varieties. Plot size was 6.5*2 square m and planting distance was 50*50 cm with 3 plants/hill. A 50 kg of 15-15-15 fertilizer was applied before planting and a 25 kg of ammonium sulphate was top-dressed after 20 day emergence. Because of low germination of the check variety: CMB 8704 F4, then Suwan 2 was used as check variety instead. At Chiang Mai, the baby comn private hybrids: Cargill 729, Pioneer 3228, CMB 9001 and G-5406 produced baby corn standard ears by 116, 98, 96 and 91 kg/rai which were significantly higher than that 64 kg/rai of Suwan 2. At Srisumrong the baby corn government hybrids: CMB 9001, Pioneer 3266, B90R01, Cargill 729 and G-5406 produced baby corn standard cars by 211, 204, 194, 182 and 157 kg/rai which higher than that 158 kg/rai of Suwan 2. At Praputthabat, the baby Private hybrids: Cargill 729, CMB 9001, CMB 9002, Pioneer 3266 and G-5406 produced baby corn standard ears by 117, 101, 101, 94 and 91 kg/rai which were significantly higher than that 64 kg/rai of Suwan 2. Suphanburi, baby government hybrids: CMB 9002, Cargill 724, corn standard cars Pioneer 3266, CMB 9001 and G-5406 produced by 129, 121, 118, 116 and 114 kg/rai which were higher than that 111 kg/rai of Suwan 2. Produced quality baby corn ears and yield were CMB 9001, Cargill 729, Pioneer 3266 and G-5406. Produced baby corn standard ears average from the 4 locations by 131, 128, 124 and 113 kg/rai which were higher than that 99 kg/rai of Suwan 2.
