Attitudes towards school lunch, including factors influencing those attitudes were studied among 421 primary and 604 secondary school children, the University Laboratory School, Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University. Dishes consisting of prawn, beef, poultry were preferable to fish. For vegetables, they preferred green leafy vegetables such as swamp cabbage, ivygourd, cabbage and chinese cabbage. They did not like vegetables with strong odour such as radish, snap-bean, sweet basil. The children like to have single plate meal rather than separated dishes. For desserts, they liked desserts with ice more than containing coconut milk. They also liked fruits such as rambutan, mangosteen and pineapple. According to the energy provision, rice with pork stew contributed the highest calories (704 kcal) and contained 21 g protein. Protein rich dish, on the other hand was found in fried rice with steamed chicken thigh (25 g protein, 523 kcal). Factors, i.e. income was found to influence animal protein comsumption, whereas age affected on the preference of beans and vegetables. Boys liked to have oil cooked dish more than girls who were aware of weight gain.
