Control of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) of vegetable using mixtures of bacteria and some antagonistic fungi

Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) under an aseptic condition on tomato and lettuce are cultured on 3 formula of MS media. Only tomato could grow on MS added with 1 mg/l IBA and 2 mg/l BA. M. incognita could complete its life cycle and was able to multiply both on root from callus or from tomato plant. Not root-knot nematodes were found on callus. Effect of 43 isolates of bacteria from several areas on hatching of M. incognita was conducted. Three methods were used to select bacteria that were antagonized to M. incognita. There was no significance in each method. Only 2 isolates, UB-01 and SK-02, decreased egg hatching significantly compared to control treatment. Study on interaction between 10 isolates of bacteria and 10 isolate of antagonistic fungi revealed that 60 pairs did not interact, elevens pairs had light interaction and 29 pairs had strong interaction. Using compatible antagonists to control root-knot of lettuce in screenhouse, mixtures of Paecilomyces lilacinus and Trichoderma harzianum decreased gall number as much as P. lilacinus plus NK-05 and chitosan which significantly differed from control, with 65, 66 and 104 galls per plant, respectively. Under field conditions, the mixtures of NK-05 and Bacillus megaterium decreased gall number as well as carbofuran which significantly differed from the above treatment and from the control treatment, i.e. 6, 6, 14, 14 and 18 galls per plant, respectively.
