Expected role for Tumbon Council in community forests: Case study of farmers in the deteriorated forest area, Amphoe Gangkrachan, Changwat Phetchaburi

Specific objective of the research were to investigate : 1) some personal, socio-economic and culture of farmers in relation to expected roles for Tumbon Council in community forests, 2) the actual roles of farmers in community forests, 3) the actual roles and expected roles for Tumbon Council in community forests 4) the problem of farmers and Tumbon Council in community forests, and 5) the suggestion of farmers for Tumbon Council in community forests. Studied samples included 130 farmers resided in Tumbon Song Pee Nong, Amphoe Gangkrachan, Changwat Phetchaburi by employing the purposive Sampling Technique through interview schedule. The main statistical methods in this investigation were percentage, arithmetic means, correlation analysis, and t-test. The findings revealed that the most expected role of farmers for Tumbon Council in community forests was to carry out forests planting activities on any celebration day. According to seedling, the most expectation of farmers for Tumbon Council role was to be the coordinator among the government officers, the council committee and the farmers. In order to be in charge of community forests utilization, the most expectation of farmers for Tumbon Council role was to establish community forests development funds. The major problems of their community forests activities with Tumbon Council was no have enough time to participate. The hypothesis at significant 0.05, and 0.01 level were proved that the were almost significantly correleted between age, education, number of minor occupation, income, debt, size of family labour, size of farmland, social status, and also traditional beliefs with actual roles and expected roles for Tumbon Council in community. And it was found that there were difference significantly between actual roles in community forests monitoring, government offices contact for facility assistance and also to have the forester with those expected roles of farmers. In addition, the other actual roles and expected roles were no difference significantly.
