Tetra SL and Harco pullets of the nearly same hatch and grown on the same growing farm under the same husbandry and feeding conditions were transfered on the laying farm, where housing, management and feeding conditions were the same for both strain during 52 and 56 weeks of production. Tetra SL layers were better in laying performance, somewhat lower percentage of broken eggs and higher average egg weight, and Harco layers in lower bird mortality. Performance of both strains was under their performance standards, because of suboptimal feed. Lower performance of Harco layers could be influenced by the cage housing, and breeding organization which produced Harco layers announced that their performance is optimal under extensive husbandry.
