Rhizofiltration of effluents and uranium contaminated soils by corn plants

Vegetative tests performed with maize revealed uranium phytotoxic effect on plant height, yield and germination of seeds; this effect was stronger on the plants grown on pseudogley in comparison with those grown on chernozem. A linear dependence between the content of uranium in soil and in plant organs, including maximal content of 1000 ppm, indicates that maize could be used for decontamination and remained of uranium contaminated soils.
