This review has been prepared in response to repeated findings of increased content of malachite green residues in muscles of market rainbow trout. This preparation is used in fish farming in the form of either short- and long-term antiparasitic and/or antimycotic baths. The article reviews therapeutic effects of malachite green, its adverse side-effects including its cumulation and persistence in treated fish. The objective was to remind veterinarians and fish farmers of the risk of using malachite green in fish farming and to emphasize the necessity of checking the content of residues in market fish.
