Analytical methods used for rapeseed quality evaluations are compared in this article. The methods are divided into 3 groups: screening, legislative and alternative methods. Screening methods are cheap, simple, quick and used often when only small samples are available. They are suitable for plant breeders. Legislative methods which are very precise are used as reference methods. They are tested by several different laboratories. Legislative methods of ISO have been already included into Czech standards. Alternative methods serve in final stages of research evaluation, they are for example used in monitoring the qualitative traits changes during plant development, harvest and storage. The best of these methods may serve later as reference methods. Combinations of all three types of methods are tested in the Czech Republic before its EU accession.
