This contribution summarizes the present status of knowledge concerning nutrition and feeding of early life stages of cyprinid fish. It is divided into two parts. The first part deals with evaluations of actual problems, biological specifications of early ontogeny of cyprinids, morphological and physiological aspects of larval digestion and present progresses in production of starter diets. The second part specifies nutritional requirements, importance of zooplanktons in the process of larval feeding, characteristics of ingredients used for larval diets and finally details of feeding larvae at their early life stages.
