The article summarizes the principle targets of sheep breeding in Slovakia. The sheep population numbers about 367,000 animals. About 154,000 ewes are milked. The further development of sheep breeding in Slovakia comprises: 1) increase of the sheep population, meat and milk production and fertility; 2) increase of the number and quality of products on the market; 3) support of small and middle sheep breeders in the regions with high unemployment.
