The effect of some agronomical factors on growth and grain yield of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum)

In the field small-plot trial conducted in the years 1996 to 1999, effects of forecrop, sowing date, variety (Hana, Astella) and nitrogen doses on growth and grain yield of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) were studied. The experiments were carried out in sugar beet-growing region in Kromerir. Initial growth of winter wheat plants was affected expressively by the sowing date. The weight differences of plants from different sowing date were decreased during growing period. The highest weight was reached with plants from sowing date in agricultural limit in both growing region in the stage of flowering. On the average over all variants and over three years of winter wheat growing grain yield was 5.57 t.ha-1. The highest grain yield 8.02 t.ha-1 was reached with sowing date in agricultural limit, Astella variety, with higher nitrogen dose and with alfalfa forecrop. Analysis of variance achieved significant effect of studied agronomical factors. Grain yield from experiment variants with alfalfa forecrop was 0.51 t.ha-1 higher than grain yield from variants after maize forecrop and 0.90 t.ha-1 higher than grain yield from variants after spring barley. Grain yield from experiment variants with sowing date in agricultural limit was 0.83 t.ha-1 higher than grain yield from variants with sowing date after agricultural limit and 1.29 t.ha-1 higher than grain yield from variants with sowing date before agricultural limit.
