In Estonia a number of deciduous tree species Silver Birch, Downy Birch, Common Alder, Grey Alder and Aspen grow in commercially considerable volume. Natural conditions here are favourable for growing more Ash, Oak and Black Alder. During the last half century the area of Estonian woodlands has doubled. Thus half of the forests are firstgeneration stands on former agricultural lands. Deciduous tree stands have attained more value during the last decause of both economical and environmental reasons.
