Investigation on succession of bird communities in the Sopron-Mountains
1999
Winkler, D.
The aim of the research was to investigate the bird-succession in the Sopron-Mountains. The observations were made in 5 different successional stages. 38 species were found during observing the target area. The research has shown structural changes in bird communities during the succession. The species richness, density and diversity showed the same trend. Their numerical value was the lowest in the cutover areas and in the 1-2-year-old-afforestration, and the highest in the old stands. After the starting increase (Shurb stage) there is a slight decline because of the canopy closure of the young trees. Further decrease is to be found in the low pole stands, but any more suitable for the hole-nesting ones. In coniferous forest plantations the species richness, density and diversity are lower than in the decidous forests.
