Examination of the effect of vitamin D3 on Ca and P metabolism in the rabbit with isotope method
2000
Febel, H. | Huszar, S.
The effect of a single intramuscular administration of vitamin D3 (100 000 IU cholecalciferol) on Ca and P metabolism in the rabbit was studied. During the 7-day-examination period the excretion of both minerals via urine and faeces was followed with 32P and 45Ca isotopes. The amount of 32P and 45Ca excretion through faeces did not change as a result of vitamin treatment. Following the administration of vitamin D3 renal excretion of both minerals differed. In the case of P, following vitamin treatment test animals excreted more radio-P each day of the examination compared with the control group. Vitamin D3 decreased renal excretion of radio-Ca. The single large dose of vitamin increased slightly the incorporation of 45 Ca into the bones.
