Genome modification of selected domestic species has been the focus of intense research efforts for the past 15 years. The aim of genetic modification or selection is to obtain stable desirable phenotypes that transmit the required traits -by addition or deletion of specific DNA sequence- through the germ line. This shows a fusion gene, the important goal for making transgenic animals. It can achieve the required genetic modification in several ways:sperm mediated DNA transfer, pronuclear injection, retroviral vectors and last, but not least different types of cells applied to nuclear transfer. The great potential of genetically modified cell line using nuclear transfer is that it will permit precise transformation of existing genes and their expression and genetic modification realised prior to the nuclear transfer.
