Results of the lowland rice variety improvement for good quality

English. Three factors should be considered in improving lowland rice varieties. The three factors were: high yield potential, resistant to major pests and diseases, and good quality. Human preference on rice characters was dominant on long grain and with high percentage of normal kernel and with low amylose content. In developing new rice varieties carrying these characters and other desirable traits, several steps had been done: genetic resource identification, hybridization, development of generations, selection and evaluation. Four lines and IR-64 had 78 percent-79 percent of brown rice, 68 percent-69 percent of white rice, 91 percent-96 percent of head rice, and 23 percent of amylose content. Pedigree numbers of these lines were: S969b-265-1-4-1, S3254-2g-21-2, S3383-1d-Pn-16-2 and S3383-1d-Pn-41-3-1. Three of these four lines were more resistant to both brown planthoppers and bacterial leaf blight than IR-64. S3383-1d-Pn-16-2 was the best in both yield potential and resistancy to bacterial leaf blight

Untuk membentuk varietas yang memiliki ketiga faktor dan sifat-sifat lain yang dibutuhkan ditempuh langkah-langkah: identifikasi sumber genetik, hibridisasi, penggenerasian, seleksi, dan evaluasi. Empat galur dan IR64 memiliki rendemen beras pecah kulit 78 persen-79 persen, beras giling 68 persen-69 persen, persentase beras utuh 91 persen-96 persen, dan kadar amilosa 23 persen. Nomor pedigree dari galur-galur tersebut terdiri dari: S959b-265-1-4-1, S3254-2g-21-2, S3383-1d-Pn-16-2, dan S3383-1d-Pn-41-3-1. Tiga galur (S3254-2g-21-2, S3383-1d-Pn-16-2, dan S3383-1d-Pn-41-3-1) lebih baik dari IR64 dalam hal ketahanan terhadap wereng coklat dan bakteri hawar daun.
