Experiment was conducted at Chettalli, Kodagu (Karnataka), a predominantly coffee growing area, to study the suitability of robusta coffee (Coffea robusta), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum Maton), black pepper (Piper nigrum) and mandarin (Citrus reticulata) in a mixed cropping system. Robusta coffee intercepted maximum amount of light and photosynthetically active radiation in mixed cropping system. It also recorded higher photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, carboxylation and water use efficiency at gas exchange levels. The study indicates bright scope for multistoreyed high density mixed cropping in robusta coffee plantations.
