This paper aims to clarify the present situation of "AGRICULTURAL TOURISM" and its evaluation as a rural encouragement method in AICHI Prefecture. As a result, the following points were made clear. 1) "AGRICULTURAL TOURISM" plays various roles in rural encouragement: such as (i) the preservation of farming fields, (ii) the development of consumers' demand for agricultural products, (iii) the diversification of the productive management, (iv) the creating new employment, and (v) the creation of communication and recreation spaces for the inhabitants and the tourists. 2) In the economic management aspect, compared with ordinary farm, "tourist-farm" has some superior aspects: such as selling agricultural products with higher prices, and decreasing labor hours by adopting more extensive productive system
