A new soybean cultivar with high processing suitability "Tamaurara"

Abstract : A new soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivar "Tamaurara", registered as "Soybean Norin 112" was developed at Tohoku National Agricultural Experiment Station in 1999. It was selected from a cross between "Karikou 296 F6" and "Karikei 237" to obtain a cultivar with large seed, high quality and high yield. The date of maturity of "Tamaurara" is almost the same as that of "Tomoyutaka" at Kariwano. The cultivar is classified into group III based on the date of maturity. "Tamaurara" is characterized by purple flowers, gray pubescence, broad leaflets and brown pods at maturity. It has a short stem, shows a determinate growth type and high lodging resistance. The seeds of "Tamaurara" are large, about 350mg seed(-1), dull whitish yellow with yellow hila and are suitable for boiled bean processing. Since the protein content of "Tamaurara" is 2 - 3 % higher than that of "Tomoyutaka" and "Tachinagaha", it is more suitable for Tofu processing. It shows a high productivity and adaptability in the northern and central parts of Tohoku district, northern parts of Kanto district and Hokuriku district. As a result, "Tamaurara" is released as a new recommend cultivar from Tochigi prefecture in 1999
