Sarcocystis sp. detected from slaughtered cattle

Sarcosystis sp, was detected from the heart and diaphragm of 3 out of 200 cattle slaughtered in Saitama Prefecture. Cysts were 1,220 - 2,432 x 80 - 124 mu-m in size and had the readily striated wall 3 to 4 mu-m thick, provided with palisade-like villar protrusions 3.1 - 4.3 x 0.7 - 1.1 mu-m in size with many inside microtubules. After feeding with 20 fresh cysts, dogs nor domestic cats excreted no oocysts nor sporocysts in the feces for 30 days
