We researched the influence of all-night illumination on the heading response, growth and yield of recommended varieties and lines in Aichi Prefecture. Results are summarized as follows: 1) Varietal difference was observed to the extent of heading being delayed in extremely early varieties. The heading of early and middle varieties was delayed greatly. 2) As the temperature was lowered, days to heading tended to be promoted by all-night illumination. 3) The plant age, in leaf number, of those illuminated all-night was delayed in the latter half of the growing period on Mineasahi, Matsuribare and Aoinokaze. The plant age, in leaf number, of all-night illumination increased on Koshihikari. 4) The influence of all-night illumination on the yield of rice was remarkable on early, middle and delayed varieties. 5) The varieties with large basic vegetative growth and the varieties with small basic vegetative growth and small sensitivity to day length did not have remarkable delayed hea
