A study on agricultural co-operatives for promoting welfare action in communities: Through the experience of Aizubange Agricultural Co-operative [Japan]

Recently, Agricultural co-operatives have become active in welfare action throughout Japan. The purpose of this study is to reveal the present situation and role of Agr. Coops in the welfare of communities based on the experience of Aizubange Agr. Coop in the western part of Fukushima prefecture. The conclusions of this study are as follows. 1) Aizubange Agr. Coop plays a role in developing a basis for a health care system in the home and facilities for communities. The Agr. Coop provides human-resources for community care in Aizubangemachi and sends a representative, who is one of the planners in Aizubangemachi. There is an expected improvement in social welfare. 2) The problems of the welfare action of Aizubange Agr. Coop are the lack of original welfare services and the lack of participation in the action
