Milk production, milk quality and reproduction of dairy cow in freestall housing

This study was carried out to clarify the characteristics of milk production, milk composition, somatic cells and reproduction of dairy cow kept in freestall housing in Aichi Prefecture 59 dairy farms surveyed mere members of the Aichi Dairy Herd Improvement Association Milk production milk composition, somatic cells, reproduction, beddings on the scrape alley, the structure of the stall bed and number of stall rows were surveyed. The results obtained were as follows: 1) The dairy cows kept in freestall housing had less milk yield and better reproduction results than those in tie stall housing. 2) Beddings placed on scrape alley caused the cows to lye down on it. This brought less milk yield, lower milk composition and more somatic cells. 3) Beds with bad conditions caused less milk yield, lower milk composition, more somatic cells and bad reproduction results, following the cows lying down in the alley. 4) The herds with three-row-stalls produced less milk with a high number of somatic cells following cows lying down in scrape alleys compared to those with two-row-stalls
