The single application of fertilizer in a nursery box to ordinary transplanted rice culture was investigated in Yamagata Prefecture. The results are as fellows. 1) Sigmoid-types of controlled-release (100 days) coated fertilizer has allowed the single application of fertilizer in a nursery box to ordinary transplanted rice culture. Amount of coated fertilizer to rice variety "Haenuki" was 300 mgN in nursery box. Coated fertilizer was mixed with soil or applicated between soil and seed in nursery box. At the same time, the 1 mgN amount of compound fertilizer and proper quantity of soil moisture condition were required in nursery box. 2) The number of tillers of rice plants in coated fertilizer plots were increased slowly. Consequently, panicle number and yield of these rice plots were a little less than that in the compound fertilizer plot. The average yield in coated fertilizer plots was 57.2 kg/a. 3) In order to increase quickly the number of tillers of rice plants in coated fertilizer plots, they were efficacy as follows. i) Compound of sigmoid types rather short released coated fertilizer. ii) Proper planting density. 4) Phosphate was supplied by covering the nursery box with fused magnesium phosphate
