Effects of fruit thinning on the quality of citrus fruit and recovery of tree damaged by salt breeze

The effect of salt damage to citrus trees in particular after the disaster and the effects on fruit quality and tree form recovery from furuit thinning done after the damage occurred were investigated, and the following results were obtained. 1. The degree of pericarp color and the sugar content of the fruit juice of 'Miyauchi Iyokan' and 'Okitsu wase' decreased, as the amount of fallen leaves increased. The rate of decrease of citric acid was reduced, as the rate of fallen leaves increased. 2. Between the degree of fallen leaves and the plant death of 1 or 2-year-old branches and rootlets, there was a highly positive correlation. 3. Fruit thinning immediately after the damage brought about higher -quality development in fruit remaining on the trees. It also brought about more effective recovery of tree form on the trees with extensive damage than on those with light damage
