Ridge tillage system [RTS] and vegetative counter strips as alternative land management systems were evaluated to enhance corn productivity, profitability and sustainability. The project was conducted in Claveria, Misamis Oriental [Philippines] from 1992 to 1995. Findings revealed that RTS reduced soil loss by 58%. It can be combined with vegetative filter strips-leaving 50 cm wide of unplowed grass strip. Such combination will reduce soil erosion by 95-96%. RTS also provided ease in furrowing and ensured good germination of seeds. In combination with herbicides, RTS enabled corn farmers to have three croppings in a year which increases farmers annual income by 58%
