Application of heat pipe technology in grain drying
1999
Anon.
DAIKA 5 dryer is capable of drying 1500 kg of wet grain to 14 percent moisture content at 50 percent energy cost reduction. It can retrofit to a 500 kg per hr recirculating dryer like the BPRE flash dryer. DAIKA 12 is another model for 80 to 100 tons per batch for in-store dryer or retrofit to 4 tons per hour LSU type dryer. Initial technical performance of DAIKA5 dryer revealed that there is energy cost reduction of almost 60 percent and the grain quality was enhanced due to low temperature drying. On the other hand, performance evaluation of DIAKA 12 retrofitted to LSU dryer showed that it can dry 2500 kg of palay from an initial moisture content of 21.4 percent to 13.2 percent in three and a half hours. The average drying temperature and relative humidity are 54 deg C and 16 percent, respectively. The energy cost was computed as P0.10 per kg making a total drying cost of P0.34 per kg
