Screening of candidate pathogens for the control of coleopterous insect pest in storage
1999
Anon.
BPRE collaborated with National Institute of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology (BIOTECH) to study pathogens against adults of six major storage insect pests. These insect pests and flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum Herbst.), lesser grain borer (Rhysopertha dominica Fabricius), corn weevil (Sitophilus oryzae Motschusly), rice weevil(S. oryzae Linnaeus), Callosobruchus spp. (Fabricius) and Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium Everts). The experiment showed that of the total 206 bacterial isolates tested, seven provided low mortality after 14-day exposure to treated grain, S. oryzae, R. dominica and S. zeamais. Pathogenicity test have been extended to include the investigation on the effect of the pathogens to the developmental stages of test insects
