Carcass yield and chemical characteristics of meat from different breed groups of native chicken [Philippines]

The study was conducted to evaluate the dressing percentage and chemical characteristics of meat from different breed groups of the Philippine native chicken. Dressing percentage and proximate composition of different breed groups of Philippine native chicken (Bolinao, Banaba, Bicol, and Palawan groups) were evaluated using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) in a completely randomized design (CRD) with commercial broiler as control. The dressing percentage of commercial broiler is significantly higher than that of the different breed groups. Among the native breed groups, the dressing percentage of Banaba and Palawan differ significantly with Bolinao and Bicol bred groups. The moisture, ash and protein contents of chicken meat from the commercial broiler and different breed groups did not differ significantly. The fat content of the commerical broiler was found to be significantly higher than that of the native breed groups. However, there is no significant difference in the fat content of different breed groups of Philippine native chicken
